Opposition Slams Assam Government Over Education Sector Moves, Plans Stir On September 28

Guwahati: On Wednesday, the opposition criticised the Assam administration for its string of educational policy decisions and said that the BJP-led coalition was attempting to privatise schools. The heads of nine political parties claimed at a joint press conference that recent government initiatives will progressively “destroy” the mother tongue because kids won’t be learning it in school. “The government’s covert plan is to give select private players control of Assam’s educational system. They want to obliterate every community’s mother tongue “Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, a Rajya Sabha member, remarked.

He stated that the BJP-led NDA is making basic education unaffordable for underprivileged children and supporting the expansion of private institutions. Manjit Mahanta, a senior spokesperson for the Congress, claimed that having science and math taught in English starting in class 3 will prevent kids from naturally picking up their mother tongues. Isfaqur Rahman, the head of the CPI(M), claimed that under the guise of better administration and a low admission rate, the Assam government was closing thousands of state-run schools. “If the number of admissions has decreased recently, it is cause for concern, and the authorities should take action. The government, however, is taking the opposite action and closing the schools ” He Said.
